AIR CONDITIONING INSTALLATION

We Want To Provide You With The Most Comfortable Service

Having to install a new air conditioner unexpectedly is something no one ever wants to deal with. Nobody wants to wake up to a broken air conditioner and wonder what to do or be slapped with a hefty bill just to get their cooling system going again. Here at Larsen Heating and Air, we know you might have questions and that you want to get the best deal possible to get your A/C up and running again. While a repair can sometimes do the trick, occasionally air conditioners get too old and installing a new air conditioner is the best choice. If this is the case, we at Larsen want to help you get the best deal you can and help you invest in a new A/C system that will last you for a long time, so you won’t have to worry about a broken air conditioner for many years to come.

Here is some information about things to think about when considering replacing your air conditioner, as well as some information about our air conditioner installation process at Larsen Heating and Air.

Considering Replacing That Old Air Conditioner?

When considering if it is time to replace your old air conditioner, here are a few things you will want to consider. Not all air conditioners need to be replaced. Sometimes a repair is all that is needed. Other times, repairing old, outdated units over and over will lead you to spend more money just to have to replace the unit later on anyway. Here are some things to think about to know if you should replace your existing air conditioner.

1. Age of the Unit

If your unit is getting old, it may be worn out and time for a replacement. As with any machine, air conditioners and their parts have a life cycle and do need to be replaced from time to time. And eventually they just wear out. If your unit is over 15 years old it may be time to get a replacement instead of a repair. Or if your air conditioner has problems and the repairs would be more costly than to replace it, that is also grounds to consider a new A/C installation.

2. Cost of Repairs

Several repairs on an A/C unit, such as the compressor going out or other major repairs can easily become more costly than it would be to just replace the unit entirely. And if you are adding new parts to an already well worn system, the other parts will in turn wear out and break and cause more strain on the new parts, causing them to wear faster as well. While it may be more expensive up front to just replace the unit, it may be a better long term investment in this case.

3. Increasing Utility Costs

If your system is more than 15 years old, it’s guaranteed to be substantially less efficient than current models. That by itself may not seem like a big deal, particularly when you’re contemplating the cost of an air conditioning installation. However, there are benefits with a new system. Lower energy bills, consistent cooling and no AC repairs for years to come, just to mention a few. So if you are suffering repair after repair or some parts of your home are being cooled more than others, not to mention the high energy bills, maybe it is time to consider replacing your system.

Of course, the truth is that you are going to replace your old air conditioner sooner or later. So why keep spending more money on higher energy bills and costly repairs?

4. Outdated refrigerant

This may not apply to many air conditioning units but is something to think about if you have an especially old system. In 9 years there will no longer be R-22 refrigerant manufactured. Currently all new air conditioners will be using only R410A refrigerant. This means you may also have to replace your in-door coil with one compatible with the new R410A refrigerant. If this is the case, it may be worth simply paying for a new system that is up to date with the latest technology in the industry and that will last you for many more years to come.

5. Less Cooling Power

Sometimes as an air conditioner gets older, it won’t cool your home the same as it used to. If your home isn’t getting cool and you have tried cleaning or replacing your filter and have watered down the condenser unit, it may just be that the system is getting old and you need a replacement. If this is where you are at, rather than suffer through less cooling power or try and fix it yourself, consider saving your time and money by looking at an air conditioning replacement through an HVAC expert.

The Air Conditioner Installation Process

Installing an air conditioner is a more complicated process than many people think. And if your HVAC contractor doesn’t understand all of the steps to a good installation, you won’t get as high quality of a system and will pay for it later in higher utility costs. Here is a basic summary of a few of the steps involved in installing an air conditioner with Larsen Heating and Air.

1.Selecting a New Air Conditioner

Modern air conditioners may be much larger than units that are 20 to 30 years old and this may require some accommodation of the space in your home to fit the new unit. You will also want to make sure you select the right size of system for the size of your home or building to have maximum efficiency. We offer a variety of models and sizes and can help you choose the right one for you.

2.Home Inspection

Next an expert will want to come and inspect your home and the space where the new unit will be. If modifications need to be made to be able to accommodate the new unit, such as modifying ductwork etc, the expert will recommend this and work with you to make a plan of action. We want to make sure that the system is set up properly the first time instead of an installation that is just “good enough.”

3.Installation Team Arrives

We will always call you to let you know we are on our way so that you can know when to expect us. We will also make sure that we introduce ourselves by our company name so that you can know who we are and feel comfortable with us in your home. We treat your home with respect and bring mats and protective equipment and make sure to leave your home cleaner than we found it. We want you to be at ease knowing that we respect you and your home instead of any feelings of discomfort during the installation process.

4.Installation Process Begins

Our experts will talk with you and explain the process and scope of the job so that we make sure we are on the same page. We believe that communication is key. We will then begin the process of removing the old unit and installing the new one. This process generally takes anywhere between 4 to 8 hours to complete and is much more complicated than simply unplug one and plug the other in. Here is an example of a few of the steps involved.

    1. Review the existing space and note any modifications needed for the new unit to fit properly
    2. Safely and legally remove the refrigerant from the old unit before disconnecting the old unit (for environmental and safety reasons)
    3. Disconnect electrical wiring from old air conditioner (can include installing a new flexible electrical conduit (whip) to the disconnect box if needed)
    4. Make sure ground and area is prepped for the new unit (including replacing the pad it sits on if needed)
    5. Exchanging the evaporator coils, refrigerant lines and installing new air conditioner condenser and much more!

5.Completion and Follow Up

Once the installation is complete we will run a test to make sure things are working properly and will make sure you know how to get a hold of us in the event that you have any problems in the future.

All of our installations come with our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty program, and if you have any problems with your new A/C, we strive to be as responsive as we can and take care of you. We value our customers and take pride in what we do and in making sure you are taken care of for years to come.
